Rebuilt Machine Overview
Our rebuilt machines were entirely dismantled, cleaned and extensively rebuilt. The whole boiler assembly and all of the copper tubing was removed and thoroughly descaled. We then rebuilt the boiler, brew group, pump assembly and valves, cleaning, replacing and lubricating parts as necessary. Our entire process is described in detail below.
Total Tear Down and Rebuild Process:
- Boiler & Piping Assembly: first we installed all NEW parts including a heating element, pressurestat, safety valve, vacuum relief valve, high limit switch, and boiler insulation.
- Brew group: we then did a complete tear down, cleaning and lubrication of the brew group and installed all NEW brewing, infusion and discharge valves along with their seals, the upper and lower infusion valve springs, the shower screen, and group gasket.
- Pump Assembly: the rebuilds all feature an all NEW pump, OPV & air remover, and style fitting with heavy duty teflon tubing.
Testing Phase:
- When the machines were reassembled, we adjusted the steam pressure to 1 bar; and, with the backflush disc in, we set the brew pressure to 10 bars.
- Post-reassembly, we thoroughly tested the machine’s steaming, brewing and pre-infusion performance, and made sure the sound level it produced was no louder than on a new machine.
When you Buy:
The rebuilt machines include the following accessories: a portafilter, single and double filter baskets, a backflush disc, tamper, coffee scoop, and a large particle filter.
Machine Overview
The Athenea Control from Expobar boasts a vintage copper and brass ornamental look, wrapped around comercial-style components for enduring power. The embossed copper and bronze is finished with lacquer to highlight the Athenea's handcrafted quality. The decorative eagle is removable, or it can be turned to face any direction. The commercial-style heat exchange boiler allows you to brew and steam at the same time, perfect for the home or office.
Accessories include a chrome plated brass portafilter, tamper, single shot filter basket, double shot filter basket and a 7 gram coffee scoop.
Please Note: Regulations for commercial use vary between states. Be aware of your local requirements. Machines carrying an NSF approval are labeled as such. Please visit our policies page for warranty information.
Housing and Build Quality
Constructed of real copper and bronze. All of the pieces are embossed and lacquered.
Brewing
Commercial Brewing Group
The Expobar Athenea has a chrome plated brass brew group equipped with a thermosyphon system and pre infusion. The thermosyphon maintains proper temperatures at the group head, while pre infusion gently soaks the coffee to help extract all the flavor from your coffee.
Commercial Design Heat Exchanger Boiler System
The 1.8 liter all-copper boiler has an internal heat exchanger so you can brew and steam or dispense hot water whenever you want to, even at the same time. This is especially important when entertaining guests at home, or when the office is bustling.
High Quality Controls with Temperature Ready Light
The easily programmable controls are a breeze for anyone to operate. There are four buttons, that when programmed will measure the amount of coffee going into your cup and shut off by its self. This allows you to focus in on creating the perfect froth while the machine takes care of the espresso. There is also a main power switch and ready light that lets you know when the machine has achieved the proper pressure for operation.
Programmable Buttons
The Expobar Office Athenea has a 5-button touch pad for activating the pump and programming your favorite drinks. Four of the buttons are available to program to automatically dispense the desired volume of water.
3-Way Solenoid Valve
The 3-way solenoid valve is a commercial feature that relieves the water pressure off the coffee when the brew switch is turned off. This serves two functions; it dries out the coffee to prevent dripping, and makes it easy to knock the coffee out of the portafilter with one knock. It deposits this excess water into the drip tray.
Multiple Safety Switches and Controls
If the water level in the boiler gets low the electronic controls sense this and turn the pump on to automatically fill the boiler. If the reservoir runs out of water a CPU board will turn off the heating element to prevent overheating. A manual reset high temperature switch is located on top of the boiler as a secondary safety switch.
Boiler Pressure Control
The boiler temperature/pressure is controlled through a professional grade pressure controller. It senses the pressure in the boiler and turns on the heating element in the boiler as the pressure drops.
Frothing and Hot Water
Steam and Hot Water Wands
The hot water dispenser is mounted on the right side, controlled with the knob directly above. The wand can be positioned directly over the drip tray, so it's easy to set your cup under it for preheating. The steam wand is on the left, long and high enough off the counter to easily fit any frothing pitcher without having to tip it.
Cleaning, Maintenance, and Other
Cup Warmer
The cup warmer on the Athenea will hold up to 9 espresso cups. It is made out of stainless steel and gets its heat directly from the heat off the boiler.
Commercial Size and Style Portafilter Handle
Made of chrome plated brass for excellent heat stability which is essential for producing top quality espresso.
Warranty
Our rebuilt espresso machines are covered by a 1-year parts and labor warranty.
