The Profitec Drive is a reimagining of the German made Pro 700, Profitec’s top tier dual boiler espresso machine. Stock with an E61 flow control device and brimming with new functionality thanks to the updated PID controller, the Drive delivers precise control of brewing variables and simple upkeep and maintenance thanks to built-in reminders. Profitec also updated the housing to streamline the look of the machine while echoing design elements found their other machines.
Power and precision are guaranteed on the Drive thanks to its dual boilers and dual PID control. Users can independently set the temperatures of the 0.75L brew boiler and the 2.0L steam boiler while the high capacity ensures excellent thermal stability and steam power. At the max steam temperature of 270F the Drive reaches an explosive 2 bar of steam pressure. For brewing the Drive is equipped with a whisper quiet rotary pump and comes stock with Profitec’s E61 flow control device for variable flow rate brewing between 2.5-28.5g/sec.
Inside the PID controller the Drive has a trove of brewing and quality of life features waiting to be discovered. The basics like brew and steam temperature control are there, along with the ability to switch off the steam boiler when not in use. Even more impressive is the programmable pre-infusion feature which can be enabled to run the pump between 1 - 10 seconds followed by a pause of 1 - 60 seconds before brewing. For simple maintenance and quality of life the PID is also equipped with a backflush reminder, water filter reminder, eco mode, and two programmable wake up times for each day of the week. Thanks to its rotary pump the Drive can be connected directly to a water line or run from its 2.8L water reservoir.
From the outside the Drive has inherited a number of design elements that have become staples within the Profitec lookbook. The updated quick steam valves and Twist and Change portafilter handles allow for simple customization with a wide variety of accents and materials. Ever present is the iconic “P” cutout on the drip tray along with black gauges for brew and steam pressure. In a nod to the Pro 400, the Drive echoes its black frame beneath the drip tray and cutout “Profitec” logo on the back panel.

Thanks to the updated PID the Drive keeps a watchful eye on maintenance and is ready to go in the morning when it’s time for that essential first cup.
With two stainless steel boilers, the Drive offers the best in both precision temperature and steaming power. At 0.75L the brew boiler heats quickly but possesses enough thermal mass to maintain stable temperatures even when pulling back to back shots. For steaming and hot water dispensing the 2L steam boiler has ample capacity for frequent milk frothing and for Americanos and tea.
Despite its compact design the display on the Drive features several improvements over the past designs used on Profitec machines. The PID will now display both brew and steam temperature simultaneously and features a button shortcut to quickly enable and disable the preinfusion function. The higher pixel count allows the Drive to display full text for easier navigation and programming.
Each of the Drive’s boilers is regulated by a PID temperature to ensure accurate and consistent heating. Each boiler can be programmed in 1 degree increments and the PID can be set to display in either Celsius and Fahrenheit. When pulling shots the display converts into a shot timer for as long as the pump is running.
The PID is programmed with a suite of quality of life features. The Drive can be set to wake up and power down at two unique times per day and can be set with reminders to backflush and change your water filter. Additional features like programmable pre-infusion and an eco mode make the Drive Profitec’s most advanced machine yet.
One of the most impactful features introduced on home espresso machines in recent years, flow control allows you to manually adjust the flow rate of water as it is introduced to your coffee. With flow control, unique extraction profiles like extended pre-infusion or high flow extractions that are more similar to lever espresso machines.
The Drive’s aesthetic blends elements from a number of Profitec machines like the signature black gauges and “P” cutouts on the drip tray. The black frame and “Profitec” cutout on the back panel echo the Pro 400 while the spring loaded valves pay homage to the Pro 600. The Drive also features Profitec’s Twist and Change portafilters for easy customization of the handle with custom accents.
