Made in Portugal
The Coast is assembled in Portugal and made from over 95% parts procured within the EU.
The Arkel Tide is a Made-in-Portugal dual boiler espresso machine with a plumbable gear pump for direct water line connection. Made from over 95% European parts and assembled in Portugal, the Tide breaks the mold when it comes to prosumer espresso machines and delivers incredibly fast heat up time.
Housed in nearly all stainless steel with a tasteful glass front panel and touch screen, the Tide is equipped with intuitive controls like a dedicated menu button and steam boiler power switch, making navigation and programming much simpler than other similar machines. Each boiler is made from stainless steel and the brew boiler is regulated via a PID controller for extreme precision. For brewing, the Tide uses a gear pump and a manually adjustable pressure valve to control pressure from the pump to the boiler.
For programming, both the single and double shot buttons can be set to brew by time with a third manual button. Pre-infusion can also be programmed in both active and passive phases for the single and double shot buttons. The Tide has dedicated backflushing and descaling programs as well as an eco mode. For transport and storage, both boilers have easily accessible drains and the brew group is fitted with a dedicated heating cartridge and is fully heated in 9 minutes.Â
Dual Boilers
Under the hood, the Tide houses two stainless steel boilers, a 0.5L boiler for brewing and a 0.7L boiler for steam. The brew boiler is regulated by a PID controller and can be set in degree increments to your preferred temperature in Celsius.Â
The brew boiler is connected directly to the brew group and is equipped with a 150W heating cartridge for rapid heating in addition to the brew water heating element. This reduces brew and steam ready time to just 9 minutes. The group is also equipped with a drain screw to empty the brew boiler for storage or transport.
The steam boiler can be turned on and off independently via a dedicated power switch on the right side of the machine and can be drained like the brew boiler via a dedicated valve on the bottom of the machine.
Electronic Gear Pump
The Arkel Tide uses a variable speed gear pump to control extraction pressure. Instead of a manual needle valve like the Coast, the Tide has a potentiometer to control pump speed in order to vary the extraction pressure. When brewing, the gear pump makes a quiet hum compared to the traditional sound of a vibration pump.
Aesthetically, the pressure control knob contributes to the Tide's design symmetry with the same shape and positioning as the steam valve located on the opposite side of the machine. One complete turn of the knob can adjust brewing pressure from 9.5 bar (fully open) to 3 bar (fully restricted). Additional control over pressure is available via the adjustable OPV located in the back of the machine next to the water reservoir.
Made in Portugal
Something truly unique about the Tide is its Portuguese origin. Not only is the machine assembled in Portugal, but the majority of its parts are either produced in-house by Arkel or procured from suppliers in the EU with over 95% of the machine being made from European parts. The majority of the Tide's housing is made from stainless steel, save for the front panel which is tastefully accented with hardened glass. The included portafilter and tamper feature wood accenting and are designed in-house by Arkel. Included with the machine are a set of IMS single and double portafilter baskets.
